iSkoot: Android Skype Application that still uses minutes? gadgets, on the go | (8)
iSkoot has released the first Skype VoIP application into the Android Store. The only problem with this Android Skype application is that it isn't really a VoIP client at all. Instead it allows your phone to make calls into a VoIP bridge that then routes you to your contact on Skype. It's only a problem because the reason that most people want to use a Skype client for Android is to avoid using expensive cell minutes. However, with this model you have to use airtime even when you're speaking with other Skype members. Continue Reading...

Fring brings VoIP to the iPhone, at least over Wifi on the go | (1)
Fring just released version 2 of its integrated communications software to the iPhone App Store, including the ability to use both Skype and SIP voice calling when connected to a wifi hotspot. Apple has said that VoIP over wifi would be possible on the iPhone and Fring is the first to make it happen. In the months prior to announcing the Android mobile phone platform many bloggers and industry folks called Android the Google phone. With the addition of Skype, a Digger called BlackIse jokingly called it the Skoogle phone. I think it's kind of catchy and want to ...

Power Play: Android and Skype on the go | (29)
Is Google getting ready to end the need for costly mobile phone minute plans and create a major upset in the mobile carrier industry? Their coming handsets could be game changing for giving users more power over their mobile handsets, but is Google could also be going after the carriers. This week Techcrunch broke news that Google and EBay are in talks about a Skype acquisition or partnership deal. Michael Arrington postulated that Google could be working to integrate their Grand Central, GTalk VOIP and other Voice services such as Google 411 to the Skype community. These services are all complimentary ...
