Yahoo Portal Redesigned for Search?

This morning we awoke to a brand new, redesigned Yahoo homepage featuring a centered logo. Rather than having the Yahoo location on the left with a Search box on the right, the Logo is centered and the Search box is underneath it. Mashable has a good side-by-side comparison for you to check out.
The puzzling thing about this shuffling is that it actually moves the start of Yahoo's portal content down. This means that less of the portal links will be displayed "above the fold," where users will see them on first glance. The design isn't more attractive in my opinion ...
