Android Skype Lite client coming to the App Market gadgets, on the go | Comments Off
The wait to make VoIP calls on your T-Mobile G1 or Kogan Agora phone is coming to an end. Skype is prepared to release the first version of Skype Lite for the Android client in the next few days. All that's left is a few days of incessantly checking the App Market for the application to get loaded. Skype already has a basic Java-based Lite client in testing and versions for the N810 tablet and Windows Mobile phones. It's really interesting that Android users will get a Skype application before iPhone users. It could be that Skype already ...

Giinii Movit Android tablet spotted at CES on the go | Comments Off
The Giinii Movit is a handheld Wi-Fi tablet running Google's Android operating system. The Movit features a 4.3" touch screen and front-facing camera that is perfect for Skype. The Movit is being touted as the Android version of the iPod Touch. The 4.3" screen actually trumps the iPod Touch's 3.5" display, though in a much larger form factor. It could be the ultimate Android Wi-Fi phone if the rumors of an impending Android release are true. Continue Reading...

Truphone makes WiFi calling simple on the iPhone on the go | Comments Off
iPhone users are still fairly limited in terms of VoIP or Skype calling. Truphone's Skype application offers a great interface that is primarily built as a Skype Messenger. You can still only make Skype calls over a WiFi connection, but that isn't likely to change in the App Store any time soon. Truphone is another alternative to the Fring Messenger, which I'm a big fan of. Truphone was originally built for Symbian phones, but now over half of its users on the iPhone. Truphone has a slightly cleaner interface than Fring, which is more of an IM client ...

Is Android ‘Cupcake’ built for rumored G2 touch device? on the go | (6)
More rumors are circulating about a T-Mobile G2 that could be announced as soon as January. While no one has confirmed the existence of a G2, it looks suspiciously like an HTC Touch HD smart phone with an Android home screen photoshopped onto it. The only thing that rumors seem to claim about the device is that it's a touch screen HTC phone without a full QWERTY keyboard. It's also rumored to include a trackball similar to the G1's optional input device. The only problem with removing the keyboard from the G2 is that the current code ...

Speculation rife about forthcoming Samsung Android phones on the go | (2)
Will the first Samsung phones running the Android OS be based on the Samsung Omnia or the Instinct? Will they be unveiled at CES this year? The only thing we know for sure is that Samsung will be releasing its first Android-based "Google phone" in Q2 of 2009. While the Samsung phone might not be the Omnia Reloaded with Android as some suspect, it's likely to offer a similar form factor. Samsung and the rest of the industry have discovered the beauty of touch-oriented applications and moved to maximize the screen size of mobile devices. Continue Reading...

Google Android ‘Cupcake’ branch gets improved surfing, video recording, A2DP on the go | (1)
Hold-outs for the T-Mobile G1, the first Android-based mobile phone, now have fewer reasons not to pick one up. Google has started a new branch of Android that resolves a number of significant bugs in the user experience and adds features that detractors complained were lacking in the initial release. Some of the new features include video recording from the G1's autofocus camera, a new javascript engine in the browser and the A2DP stereo bluetooth protocol. These may seem like relatively minor updates, but are critical gaps in functionality that kept the G1 from competing with the iPhone as ...

Open Handset Alliance adds 14 members to the Google Android bandwagon on the go | (1)
The Open Handset Alliance has announced a star-studded cast of new members like Sony Ericsson, ARM, Asus and navigation-device maker Garmin. All told, the Android-centric alliance has 14 new members knocking at its doors after the success of the T-Mobile G1. So far the only other Android device on the market is the recently-announced Kogan Agora by a little-known Aussie handset company. However, 2009 promises a number of devices from big names such as Motorola that has been hiring an army of Android developers to create the first generation of Android phones. Continue Reading...
