Firefox Mobile Alpha release just weeks away gadgets | (2)
I've been waiting for the release of Firefox's mobile web browser, codenamed Fennec, ever since the proof of concept video that User Experience Design lead Aza Raskin released back in July. Firefox's mobile browser effort was scrapped and completely restarted in the last year with a focus on performance and usability that looks on par with any other mobile browser I've seen. Their other goal is to improve Javascript support, which might actually make the browser a contender against Safari mobile only available on more phones. Now Mozilla CEO, John Lilly is hinting at an Alpha release of Firefox Mobile that ...

OpenMoko Versus Android: Open Source Mobile Roundup gadgets, on the go | (2)
Both Google and OpenMoko have been making strides towards an open source handset for the mass market, though they've taken drastically different approaches thus far. Google has been working with handset manufacturers and mobile carriers to launch the Android mobile OS, a daunting process for any nimble web company. Openmoko has opted to design their OS around their own hardware, which makes it easier to develop the handset, but much harder to use on the carrier networks. So let's take a look at how far each has come in the last year since I pleaded with Google to open source my ...

EA Mobile Releases Kung Fu Panda Game In Time For Movie Release on the go | Comments Off
I'll admit it. I'm a grown man that still watches cartoons. I'm also intensely curious about the release of a cartoon movie about a bear trained in the ancient art of Kung Fu. And not just any bear, a Panda bear... naturally. The Kung Fu Panda movie will be released Fridays, and though I may not be elbowing through the lines of kids to get into the premier, I'll definitely check it out. This morning EA Mobile also announced the release of the Kung Fu Panda mobile game to play on your cell phone. It's based on the characters and storyline ...

TellMe Location-Based Mobile Voice Search for Blackberry on the go | (3)
TellMe is a Location-Based Service that allows you to search for local business and services using only your voice. You can use it to find a business and get directions using the GPS embedded in your phone. Other services include the ability to find and buy tickets using Fandango, get traffic updates or weather information. TellMe was only available on a select number of Java-based phones with GPS chips and they just released a version for the Blackberry. TellMe is a Microsoft subsidiary, so hopefully they will also make a Windows Mobile version once more Pocket PCs include GPS. If ...

Trapster Looks Out for Speed Traps on the go | (1)
Trapster allows the online community to share and update the locations of speed traps. You can inform them of speed traps either using their software client or by just calling a toll-free number. The service then warns local users via an SMS or notification in the Trapster client. You can also check the location of speed traps on the mobile web at http://trapster.com/m. It will display local speed traps and hiding areas in either a list or using a static Google map. Trapster software can track your location using either bluetooth GPS or wifi location. Their client runs on a number ...

AOL Launches Mobile Gaming with Cellufun work | Comments Off
This week AOL launched a mobile web gaming portal in conjunction with Cellufun. These are WAP-based mobile games for the http://wap.aol.com/games targeting the casual gamer. Games include Call of the Pharaoh, Space Wars, Ice Fishing, and many popular card and board games. This is one of the first instances I've seen of ad-supported games on the mobile phone. I think it will get even more interesting as mobile web browsers become provide better AJAX and Flash support, but this is an excellent start.

7 Twitter Clients for Mobile Phones on the go | (7)
It's hard to find a way to follow all of your Twitter updates without being interrupted by a constant barrage of noise. While it's easy to update your twitter status via SMS, keeping track of your friends on the go would require near-constant text messages. You can subscribe to @ replies, but sometimes you just want to scan through the latest and greatest from the Twitterverse on your phone. I'm hoping for an integrated IM and Twitter application like what Digsby is for the desktop, which seems to be Yahoo OneConnect's goal. Until then, check out these mobile Twitter tools: ...
