Waithound: Restaurant Wait Times on the Mobile Web on the go | (0)
This morning I tripped across this new service called Waithound that let's you share and look up wait times for any restaurant listed in Yelp. It was posted on the Chowhound community site, but I can't seem to find the message any more so I'm not sure if it's actually associated with them. Waithound uses the Yelp API and allows you to update information on wait times for a restaurant based on how many people are in your party and whether it's the estimated wait time or your actual wait time. The interface is fairly simple and allows you to set ...

Is the Mobile Web Set for Extinction? on the go | (0)
Last week, open source technologist and friend of mine, Erik Jacobs, wrote a post calling the mobile web an aging dinosaur. He cited faster networks, access to the full web and UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) class devices such as the iPhone as the reason for the mobile web's impending doom and destruction. Much of his argument is true. The mobile web is evolving at an incredibly rapid pace due in large part to the iPhone's superior web-browsing ability. However, I contend that no matter how much closer to the full web experience that we can come to on a hand-held device, ...

Late last week Google announced a few new features to help you track the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing including a mobile web interface for following the events. Here's a quick guide on how to use these tools to follow your favorite events. Google Olympics Search Results The special search results that Google Search will return works on both the web and on your handset by simply typing in the name of the event. Then Google will return the schedule ...

Mobile Browsers Driving Mobile Web per ARM on the go | (3)
ARM is the leading provider of chips for mobile phones and apparently they are now focusing on optimizing their processors for browsers. Bob Morris, their Director of Platform Enablement has his eye on the mobile browser wars and calls them the new application framework for mobile devices. While I agree on their thinking and approach, I think it could be dangerous for ARM to take their eye off of the mobile phone OS market share numbers between Symbian, Linux Mobile (LiMo), Google Android, Windows mobile and others. It's really not practical to install an application for every single function that you ...

What I love about Papa Johns’ Mobile Web Interface on the go | (4)
Yesterday marked Papa Johns' entrance to the mobile web by the release of a WAP interface for ordering pizza on the go. You can reach it by pointing your mobile browser at http://mobile.papajohns.com or by accessing http://www.papajohns.com and their site will detect your mobile browser automatically. The interface is clean and simple, but still allows you to reach every bit of information available on their full web site. This falls very much in line with the W3C's recently announced Mobile Web Standards 1.0 which calls for direct and concise delivery of information. Another excellent feature is that it's built to ...
