iSkoot: Android Skype Application that still uses minutes? android | (2)
iSkoot has released the first Skype VoIP application into the Android Store. The only problem with this Android Skype application is that it isn't really a VoIP client at all. Instead it allows your phone to make calls into a VoIP bridge that then routes you to your contact on Skype. It's only a problem because the reason that most people want to use a Skype client for Android is to avoid using expensive cell minutes. However, with this model you have to use airtime even when you're speaking with other Skype members. Continue Reading...

Does the T-Mobile G1 deserve detention for not living up to its potential? android | (5)
Since the announcement of the T-Mobile G1 yesterday, there's been a major backlash against the first Android phone regarding its features at the outset. We might expect this considering the long wait to see the first ever Googlephone in the wild. However, are these outcries deserved or simply needless whining? Matt Buchanan over at Gizmodo catalogs what he calls the G1's Five Most Obnoxious Flaws including contacts and syncing, video, hardware inadequacies, miscellaneous mp3 issues and being tied to T-Mobile. Others lament the lack of stereo bluetooth or that it's just not as 'pretty' as an iPhone. Some ...

Attack of the Download Store: Apple, Google, Nokia, Sony… on the go | (1)
In the last few weeks, we've seen a bevy of announcements about new download store applications. This could be due to Apple's overwhelmingly successful iTunes model and recently launched App Store. It could also be due to the fact that more devices have enough bandwidth to make this a viable model, but whatever it is must be in the Kool-Aid of nearly every boardroom of device makers around the globe. While we initially saw this model become hugely successful for Apple with its iTunes for downloading music to people's iPods, the mobile phone industry is latching onto the idea in a ...

Android Running on HTC Tilt on the go | (0)
Someone from XDA-Developers has gotten a barebones version of Android running on the HTC TyTn II, also known as the Tilt. Somehow they've gotten Android to run on top of Windows Mobile via an executable file or EXE. Apparently they haven't been able to get the touchscreen or radio to work yet, and those may be difficult challenges. The upside is that if Android can run on top of Windows Mobile it will be easier to run in on more handsets, though it may not be as fast as running it natively. One of the top HTC TyTN II ROM ...

Opera Mini for Android Released- Before the OS! mobile browsers | (5)
Nearly 6 months after Android was announced, we're still waiting to see the first smartphone released by any of the carriers. There's a rumor that we could be seeing the first HTC Handset released running Android as soon as early May, but no confirmation. However, the platform won't be all that functional without core applications like a web browser, messaging and contact management. Google did create a mobile browser, however Opera has been doing an impressive job moving their code to the mobile platform. However, based only on testing their code using the Android Emulator included in the SDK, Opera ...
