So maybe you really should get out and take advantage of Black Friday sales, but you haven’t done as much homework as you should. Or maybe you’re a seasoned veteran and you’re ahead of schedule, waiting in line and plotting your next move.

This is where the power of the mobile web, and the iPhone’s superior browsing experience, can help you stay one step ahead of the crowds. This year Network Solutions has partnered with Cerado software to provide a mobile-optimized Black Friday deal site called bffeed.com.

The idea came when Shashi Bellamkonda, the Social Media Swami from Network Solutions, went for coffee with Christopher Carfi of Cerado software. Shashi has been in the forefront of the mobile web space having been involved with the buildmymobi site builder tool and the two of them came up with the idea together.

Simply surf to http://bffeed.com from virtually any handset with a data connection. It’s probably best for smartphones with tabbed browsers because it opens the links in a new tab.

The two also put together a blog widget so that you can share Black Friday deals on your blog. It’s based on the same feed so you can check out some of the deals right here:

Get the Black Friday - by Network Solutions widget and many other great free widgets at Widgetbox!

Nokia has announced the first Series 40 phone to include GPS and a camera, as well as a large front display for easy web-surfing. It’s a really slick looking phone and I’m a big fan of sliders as opposed to the clamshell or flip phone style.

The mobile phone boasts a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with built in flash. This is the second serious camera phone we’ve seen announced in recent weeks, the first being the Motozine ZN5 with a built-in Kodak camera.

The 6260’s GPS and web-browsing capability make it an excellent phone for use on Plazes, the location-based social network acquired earlier in the year by Nokia. Hopefully it will also include a robust driving directions application built on the company’s NAVTEQ map provider as well.

There is, however, one downside to the Nokia 6260 slider that could be helped. While not everyone necessarily needs a keyboard in their smartphone, a touchscreen would make the device’s web-surfing experience so much better.

All in all, it looks like a great phone for the mobile shutterbug to snap pictures and share them with friends from their mobile device.

Tivo owners will now be able to program their DVRs from wherever they are using Tivo’s new mobile web interface. You’ll now be able to program your Tivo to record shows simply by going to m.tivo.com on your mobile phone.

Tivo has offered a web interface for programming your DVR, but you had to be near a computer to do so. This new service offers more flexibility and ease in case you’ve forgotten to record one of your favorite shows and don’t have access to a computer.

Prior to this, only Verizon Mobile customers had access to their Tivo programming from the mobile web. Now anyone with a Tivo will be able to manage their programming regardless of phone or carrier.

You can also manage your programming if you are a Slingbox owner, from the Slingbox mobile software for Windows Mobile, Palm and Symbian phones, as CNET points out. Slingbox also allows you to broadcast your shows to your mobile phone or to another computer.

Here’s a screenshot showing your options:

The iPhone 2.2 firmware was released last week, adding features such as Google Streetview and direct podcast downloads over the device’s 3G data network connection. Now the iPhone Dev Team has released the tools to jailbreak the 2.2 update and allow for other applications on the device.

While the iPhone Dev Team still hasn’t quite cracked the code on unlocking the iPhone 3G from AT&T, it has released tools to jailbreak the 3G phones in terms of installing new applications. The iPhone Dev Team doesn’t recommend jailbreaking your iPhone 3G if you have any intentions of SIM unlocking the network in the near future.

The PwnageTool and QuickPwn applications both run on Mac OS X and the QuickPwn tool also has a Windows version as well. The PwnAge tool for Mac provides a little more control over the process, but the QuickPwn utility should work for most purposes if you’re running Windows.

Since the iPod Touch 2.2 was just released, the Dev Team hasn’t released any tools for unlocking the brand new devices. The team has released the tools as bittorrent files, but you can also find a list of mirrors in the announcement.

MySpace and RIM teamed up to release a social networking application for Blackberry phones last Thursday that seems to be gaining some momentum for MySpace in the mobile arena. The application allows Blackberry users to browser the popular social networking site and receive notifications of activity on their mobile phone.

Over 400,000 people have downloaded the application to their Blackberry device in the first week since its release. As mobile becomes more social, users can bring their social network with them anywhere they go. This allows them to keep up with friends, send messages and feel connected even when they’re far apart.

This breaks a record for both companies, who are embattled as the leaders in their spaces in the US. The iPhone has just surpassed the Blackberry as the predominant smartphone in the US and MySpace is feeling the pressure of Facebook challenging its US dominance. While this application might not fend off the competition, it at least keeps them in the game.

Apple has released the highly anticipated 2.2 firmware update for the iPhone overnight. For me, the most exciting part of the release is the addition of Streetview access from the iPhone in the included Google Maps application.

While there’s still not a turn-by-turn driving application for the iPhone, this seems to be as close as we’re likely to get in the near term. Streetview will provide a realistic view of the area that you’re traveling, as long as its been caught on film by Google’s famous camera-laden vehicles.

Apple has also released an updated User Guide to reflect the changes made in this latest release. You can download the latest version of the User Guide in pdf format directly from Apple here, or just update your phone and jump right in.
Previously Google Sync for Blackberry allowed mobile users to sync their calendars to Google, but didn’t help in terms of managing contacts. This morning Google announced a new version of its Mobile Sync for Blackberry that lets you sync your Contacts and/or Calendar with the cloud.

Google Product Manager Marcus Foster says that it’s a good way to maintain your contacts because, “If you ever lose your phone or buy a new one, getting your address book and calendar to your new device is as easy as installing Sync.” It’s really good to see Google putting a focus on contact management. The lack of sync tools for its own Android operating system when it released the T-Mobile G-1 has been causing headaches for early adopters everywhere.

You can download the application by pointing your Blackberry’s web browser to m.google.com/sync. Alternately, you can check out the FAQs and have a link sent your your phone via SMS at the Google Sync for Blackberry product page. Just make sure you have Internet connectivity, as data charges could apply.

Kelly Carter over at NewBBies has a good primer on how to install and set up Google Sync on your Blackberry. The instructions don’t include the new contact management functions, but detail the security and sync settings in detail. You might be careful about enabling two-way sync before tidying up your Google Contacts, otherwise you could end up with every person you’ve ever emailed in in your Blackberry Address Book.
