My name is Dave and I am a digital wanderer.

Since I live and work online, I’ll be sharing my perspective on mobile technology, innovation and talent on the Internet. For the past couple of years, I’ve written almost exclusively about the mobile Web. It’s something that I’m passionate about, but I’ve backed myself into the corner of being YAGB (Yet Another Gadget Blog).

However, I’m not just interested in gadgets. I’m interested in mobile technology because of how it’s changing our everyday interactions and relationships. As a Recruiter and sometimes Workforce Analyst for AOL, I’m very interested in how talent impacts innovation and design. I’m also interested in the Internet industry and Online Advertising as a technology blogger.

Hopefully those of you that have followed my blog for the latest mobile technology news will continue to find valuable insights. My goal isn’t to leave you behind, but to delve deeper into the principles at work in our changing lives and careers.

So, I guess you might have noticed that I haven’t posted in a week. Or two. Yeah… so about that.

It’s not that I don’t love you anymore- believe me, I do. But over the past year I’ve honed this blog to fine edge, applying more and more of the news style writing that I’ve been learning through the news writing that I’ve been lucky enough to do for TECH.BLORGE.

However, by focusing every single post on the latest mobile web news, I haven’t left much room for myself. This blog was initially meant to be a creative outlet, so I’m freeing myself of constraints.

Will I still write about mobile stuff? You betcha’ But expect more. I promise I’ll be back in the groove soon and I hope to see you around.

In the meantime, you can still catch me over on BLORGE.

That’s right, today I’m celebrating the first year of theregoesdave.com as a mobile web blog. I’ve written in other places and on a variety of other topics since I started blogging, but this site has been a labor of love. It’s where I can write about anything that really tickles my fancy and has helped me to become more established as a Freelance Blogger.

I have a lot of ambitious plans for expanding daily coverage on tgd, but I also need to balance those goals with my first career and personal life. Either way, I remain committed to covering the latest trends in the mobile web becoming more social. Thanks to everyone that’s supported me, encouraged me and helped me to become a better writer and a better friend.

I’ve been writing for the last year about mobile web applications and the convergence of mobile and social media for almost a year on theregoesdave.com. It’s a subject that is near and dear to hear and I will continue talking about how mobile technology is helping people connect in new ways until I’m blue in the face. But, let’s face it- it’s not the *only* thing I think about.

In fact, I constantly follow the Web Industry as a whole. I love to watch for upcoming trends in new and old media, speculate about the direction of the web and maybe even write about it. Since I’m so dedicated to keeping this a well-focused and useful site, I’ve decided to branch out and do some writing for a top-notch technology news site.

So from now on you can catch me writing for http://TECH.BLORGE.COM every weekday morning before the sun comes up. Never fear, I’ll still be writing fresh posts here as often as possible around lunchtime. This blog is part of my DNA and I plan to continue writing here for the foreseeable future.

You’ll have to keep an eye on me since I’m on the move at the moment. If you just want to follow my stories specifically, you can see my author link here, but the BLORGE team is made up of top-notch writers and we work constantly to cover the most important technology news every single day.

If you’re setting out in pursuit of the elusive Editor of theregoesdave, you might find him hard to track down. Despite advanced location technology and near-constant updates, you may have a hard time catching a glimpse of this rare creature. This is in part because he’s developed a rare ability to camouflage himself to blend in with his feed reader which is his natural habitat.

I spend way too much time behind the keyboard researching new mobile web product offerings and repeatedly blowing up my phone from testing too many mobile applications. Last week I ventured to the Washington blogger meetup to rub elbows with some of the area’s top bloggers and try a few new belgian ales at RFD’s.

If you missed my fleeting presence at the meetup, don’t despair. This Thursday Tech Cocktail makes its triumphant return to DC and I wouldn’t miss it. Fellow AOLer and DC blogosphere darling Frank Gruber and Chicago’s Eric Olson are bringing their award-winning networking shindig back for the second time.

If you aren’t registered, there are still some spots left over here.

V.

Once upon a time, people set their online status using their Instant Messenger away status. Twitter made status public and syndicated it for the world to see. Facebook integrated status messages into our social network profiles. Now everyone has started including the ability to set status on their site from Myspace to Linkedin and all hell is breaking lose.

These online status updates help us to share what we’re doing with our friends, loved ones and even business associates. We can share our latest news and challenges with everyone we know. Since they’re broken down into chunks as small as 140 characters for Twitter, we can keep track of dozens or even hundreds of our friends online.

Ping.fm now allows us to set our status and syndicate it to all of the major status, social network and micro-blogging platforms. One click can broadcast to our entire social graph, both near and far. This makes it easier to share, speak our minds and to sync all of these services using one input. While this is a great way to spread your message across the fertile field of the internet, how does it affect your audience?

It’s fairly easy to sync your Facebook and your Twitter status and they’re both networks where you’re likely to find a number of friends. However, now you have the same update appearing to your friends on both services. While this may be sure to get your point across, it can easily become repetitive and annoying for the people that you’re broadcasting to. Add more services to the mix and the problem compounds. Especially if you’re looking at the amazing capability of Ping.fm to update as many as eleven status services as once in addition to theirs.

To me, the most important factor about a service is the network effect. That is, people are most likely to end up using a service that their friends are on, thereby increasing the value of that network. For now, I’m using Twitter for my online status and Facebook and Linkedin as my primary social networks, but I’m very hesitant to cross-broadcast or add any other update services.

Just because you have a megaphone in your hand, it doesn’t mean you should go around shouting. Maybe we’ll see a unified status service as these networks find that users want a simple and uniform experience. Until then, you can follow me at http://twitter.com/theregoesdave if you want to see what I’m up to.
