The LG Pop not only has the now-standard 3-inch touchscreen in a slim form factor, it also has optional solar panels to cut down on energy consumption. It’s set to come out in Europe later this month before being released in other countries.
The Pop’s sole button turns green or red for call or end functions as needed. That’s about it as far as hardware keyboards, with everything else unnecessary having been stripped out.
The concept of solar charging for your phone is an interesting ‘green’ feature, but I’m still curious about its usefulness since most people carry their phone in a deep dark pocket for most of the day. That is, unless you have a hip holster with the solar panel peeking out to soak up sun and show off your smugness.
The best you can hope for is a sunny window that you can leave the phone to charge. It might also be handy when you’re backpacking or out and about at a concert and can’t find a power source.
