Consumers want the Palm Pre but Verizon doesn’t

Hot on the heels of a study that found the Palm Pre second only to the iPhone in terms of mindshare comes word that Verizon may be dumping its plans to carry the device. The two companies never officially announced a partnership, but the word is that Verizon is backing away from talks with Palm.

The Pre could be best known for its creepy television commercials or the fact that it was created by the creator of the iPod Jon Rubinstein, but it just can’t seem to muster the 1 million units in sales necessary to be considered a hit. This is most likely due to the fact that so far the Pre has only been offered through third place carrier Sprint.

Either way, the new WebOS operating system on the Pre shows a lot of potential. While Palm may not have found a hit device in the Pre, it’s certainly come a long way in the last couple of years since Ruby took the helm.
