Gizmodo has the scoop on the prototype Microsoft Courier device that has two screens in a Kindle form factor. It allows a user to interact via touchscreen or stylus and has only one iPhone-eque home button.
This is another glimpse of how Microsoft is looking to weave touchscreen technology for the Surface into every new product. Users will start to see touch-friendly interfaces in Windows 7 and hopefully more advanced features in Windows Mobile 6.5 and 7.
What I like most about the Courier is that it looks and feels like it could come along to a business meeting or to read a book on the couch. While touch technology makes using new device more natural, the netbook form factor isn’t.
The other thing about this device is that it could replace both a Kindle and a netbook. It’s so counter-intuitive to have a separate device just for reading, especially with the Kindle 2’s $300 price tag.
Check Gizmodo for a video of the Courier in action.
