I'd like to think open solutions will gain a foothold, and eventually win in this space. It probably doesn't make a huge difference at the ultra-high end, where cost isn't a critical factor, but for hobbyists, DIY-ers and other enthusiasts, the ability to develop, and otherwise mess with things is a big deal.
