Say hello to MOTOBLUR on Android

Today brought huge news for Android-lovers as Motorola introduced both its first Android-based phone and new skin or interface called MOTOBLUR. In both cases, the Motorola team really knocked the ball out of the park with these announcements.

First, the Motorola CLIQ will be the first Android phone in the company’s lineup that will be coming to T-Mobile customers. It features a touch screen interface with a side-sliding keyboard made for total data junkies. Ever since I gave up my bulky Windows Mobile phone from HTC, I’ve missed having a real keyboard on my smartphone.

And that doesn’t even begin to tell you how cool this device will be with MOTOBLUR.

MOTOBLUR is just a front-end interface for your Android phone that not only includes basic dialer and text-messaging capability, but also intense social networking capability. MOTOBLUR shows an integrated activity stream from all the major social networks and allows you to post to each simultaneously.

And MOTOBLUR does so while polishing up the rough edge’s of Google’s ‘classic’ Android interface. This is an important step as it shows that Motorola’s future Android devices will also be one step ahead of the competition.

While it’s been really cool to see HTC arise as one of the industry’s leading smartphone makers, Motorola totally just pulled its card. I’m sure it won’t be long until someone finds a way to put MOTOBLUR on their G1 or MyTouch, but there’s still no tacking a damn keyboard on the bottom of them.

You can get on board the MOTOBLUR virtual reality simulator here.
