Nokia is branching out from being merely the largest smartphone maker in the world, setting its sights on the burgeoning netbook market. Mobile carriers have started offering low-priced netbooks along with data subscriptions much like mobile phones and Nokia isn’t about to be left in the dust.
The Booklet 3G is Nokia’s answer to the preponderance of 10-inch netbooks on the market. it comes with built-in 3G and WiFi data connectivity, bluetooth and GPS. Nokia’s netbook will boast as many as 12 hours of battery life and will boast video-conferencing capabilities.
The Booklet 3G will include a forward-facing camera for teleconferencing. This combined with bluetooth headset capability could turn the Booklet 3G into a mobile VoIP and video-conferencing tool that rivals many home offices.
Further, the Nokia netbook will include an HDMI port for outputting high definition video. That way users can stream or share video from their Booklet 3G into any high definition compatible TV or monitor.
There’s no word yet on which carriers will be picking up the Booklet 3G or whether it’s coming to the States. However it’s really interesting to see Nokia delivering its portfolio of mobile services in a more powerful netbook device.
