Firefox Mobile Pre-Alpha for Windows Mobile HTC Touch Pro

Firefox Mobile Pre-Alpha for Windows Mobile HTC Touch Pro

Users of HTC Touch Pro Windows Mobile smartphones can now test out an early release of the Firefox mobile browser on their device. Early builds have been available from Mozilla’s source code, but this is the first release that is intended to be a fully usable browser.

The first build of Firefox Mobile for Windows Mobile is a full-featured touch browser, but is lacking in just a few areas. In order to get the browser tested by users, Mozilla released it without automatic updates or plugin support for the time being.

I’ve been waiting expectantly for this release since Mozilla decided to scrap its mobile effort late last year, leaving it far behind other comparable browsers. So far, the only serious touch browsers for Windows Mobile are Opera Mobile and Skyfire.

Mozilla’s browser looks as though it will at least match Opera Mobile in terms of usability without the server caching method used by Skyfire. I would be really interested to hear from any Touch Pro users as to their first impressions in the comments, on twitter or in email at theregoesdave (at) gmail.
