Google Books now on the Mobile Web

Google has been building a massive library of over 1.5 million books that are in the public domain and available for either search or a little easy reading. While Google Books generally isn’t seen as an e-book library site, that perception may be about to change.

Now all of the content on Google Books is now available via a mobile-friendly interface. Now you can search or read any of the books available in Google’s index from your smartphone. The site looks great on the iPhone, but works equally well on any web-enable mobile phone.

The iPhone is the latest device to get attention as an e-book reader and competitor to Amazon’s Kindle Reader. While the screen is much smaller than a full e-book reader, this provides access to books without having to pay the Kindle’s $359 price tag.

As netbooks become more popular and continue to incorporate touch screen interfaces, they could provide a more viable distribution method for e-books. Do you read e-books now or will you know that they are becoming more accessible?
