Firefox Mobile coming to HTC Touch Pro next month

The long awaited Firefox Mobile browser release to the Windows Mobile platform is getting closer. The Firefox Mobile team set a target of February for a build of Firefox Mobile, code-named Fennec, to run on the HTC Touch Pro.

Once Engineers can get the bugs worked out on Firefox Mobile for the Touch Pro, it won’t be long until we start seeing the application make the rounds. It’s possible that the build for the Touch Pro will run on other similarly-capable HTC phones as well.

Firefox Mobile is the overdue cousin of Firefox for desktop browsing to replace Pocket Internet Explorer. Currently Opera Mobile provides the best browsing experience on a Windows Mobile phone, but the early proof of concept video was truly impressive.

Windows Mobile has been losing market share to the iPhone, due in no small part to Apple’s focus on touch-friendly interfaces. Having excellent touch-screen browsing on Windows Mobile helps bridge the gap. Anyone seen an early Alpha of this in the wild yet?
