T-Mobile G2 Android phone unmasked?

Could the forthcoming HTC Sapphire be the successor to T-Mobile’s G1, tentatively called the G2? Tmonews sure thinks so, and they had hinted at the Sapphire becoming the G2 previously.

The HTC Sapphire is an entirely touch screen phone with no keyboard. That would fall inline with expectations as Google has been working on building support for the on-screen keyboard in the Android Cupcake build. This would give credence to speculation that Cupcake is being created specifically for the G2.

HTC’s entire 2009 line-up leaked on a forum earlier this week. WMPowerUser published the full line along with their thoughts on where we might see these devices pop up with carriers. It’s still too early to tell which ones might be running Android versus Windows Mobile and whether the devices will make it to the US at all.

While this seems like a pretty viable educated guess, it’s hard to say when the G2 will be announced or what it will look like. If the rumors are true, we might not have to wait much longer for confirmation on the G2’s specs and pricing.
