Motorola is set to release the Renew, the first mobile phone made from recycled plastic water bottles. Not only is the phone completely recyclable, but its also the first carbon neutral phone on the market. Motorola has worked with the Carbonfund.org to offset all of the carbon from the manufacture, distribution and operation of the green Motorola Renew phones.
Motorola has also gone farther to make sure the Motorola Renew is socially conscious. The company has reduced the packaging and used recycled cardboard. In addition, the Renew comes with a postage paid envelope to make recycling it a breeze.
The Motorola Renew will be available to T-Mobile customers some time in the first quarter of this year. It’s promising to see Motorola taking steps to provide environmentally responsible digital electronics for consumers. While this basic phone doesn’t offer a touch screen or mobile web connectivity, it’s a bold first step toward greener mobile computing.
