In addition to the introduction of Palm’s new Nova operating system, the company is expected to announce its first phone later this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The operating system is the brainchild of iPod creator Jon Rubenstein and Palm’s urgent effort to regain relevance in the smart phone market.
The new phone is expected to feature a large touch screen and slide out keyboard. it will have standard PDA functionality and media playback capability, as well as a download store at launch.
The rumors aren’t clear as to whether the keyboard will slide out in portrait or landscape mode, as most sliding smart phones do currently. A portrait slider keyboard method was patented by RIM back in February and provides an interesting picture of what it could look like, courtesy of Unwired View.
