Google has released a brand spanking new version of Google Maps for Mobile on Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 smartphones that puts Streeetview in the palm of your hand. They’re keeping the score even lest those pesky iPhone owners decide to get all high and mighty with all the hot new features.
Previous versions of Google Maps for Mobile on these devices included the maps, directions, local search and My Location feature whenever possible. You could also use an internal GPS for devices that have them built in.
The Streetview feature has been a huge focus for 2008. Google just recently announced that the feature has doubled in coverage during the year and will continue to grow in 2009. Google just pushed out the latest update, so be sure to check again if you didn’t have coverage in your area previously.
Google has been doing a good job of releasing its newest mobile features on Windows Mobile within a few weeks of the iPhone. The first example was the automatic My Location sensing feature that was in the initial iPhone release. iPhones just got the Streetview feature where available in the last few weeks along with the 2.2 firmware update..
