Flickr revamps mobile web interface

This week Yahoo unveiled an improved mobile web interface for Flickr that makes viewing pictures and videos on your mobile phone even better. Flickr is far and away the best image hosting service on the web and has always been relatively mobile-friendly.

One of my favorite features on Flickr has always been the ability to email pictures to be automatically posted in my photostream. This makes it easy for anyone with a smartphone to quickly and easily share photos on the web without having to find a computer, tether and upload them to the web.

The new revamp includes better navigation and more information in the activity streams. As the mobile web matures, developers are learning how to better take advantage of screen real estate and add in functionality that they had discarded in the interest of simplifying the mobile experience. Flickr has done a really great job of balancing a clean interface without crippling its capability.

The Flickr redesign also includes a special feature for iPhone users. Now you can view any videos uploaded to Flickr on your iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s a great feature for the iPhone set and as other devices roll out Flash support, it should make it easy to support a broad array of devices.
