Amazon’s mobile shopping application has just been released to the iTunes App Store for download. Once you enter your account information, you can shop, search and buy products from any of the multitude of Amazon shops right from your iPhone.

This iPhone shopping application is a really great concept for a number of reasons. The first of which is the ease of use. By extending your Amazon account details from the web to mobile, you don’t need to fidget around trying to set up an account, enter your shipping details or credit card location from a mobile phone. This not only saves hassle, it also helps to keep you from transmitting your credit card details over the mobile web as it can remain stored in your account.

Amazon has also created a really awesome new feature called Amazon Remembers. This feature allows you to snap a picture of any item that you might want to buy and stores it in the iPhone application. Amazon then sends the picture off to a set of mechanical Turks that try to match the picture to an item on Amazon.

While it’s not clear how quickly or accurately Amazon will be able to find a match for pictures, this could be a really cool shopping idea. If they can make it faster, the Amazon Remembers function could also become a really great tool for comparison shopping. You can find out more at www.amazon.com/iphone_app

It’s really cool that Amazon managed to get this out in time for the holiday shopping season, although they didn’t manage to get it approved prior to Cyber Monday. I’m thinking about using it to do some of my Christmas shopping. How about you?
