What I love about Papa Johns’ Mobile Web Interface

Yesterday marked Papa Johns’ entrance to the mobile web by the release of a WAP interface for ordering pizza on the go. You can reach it by pointing your mobile browser at http://mobile.papajohns.com or by accessing http://www.papajohns.com and their site will detect your mobile browser automatically.

The interface is clean and simple, but still allows you to reach every bit of information available on their full web site. This falls very much in line with the W3C’s recently announced Mobile Web Standards 1.0 which calls for direct and concise delivery of information. Another excellent feature is that it’s built to be accessible from any phone using the simplest possible interface, making it available to the largest possible audience on mobile web users.

However, the thing that I really love most about Papa Johns new mobile web interface is that it’s an excellent extension of their full web presence. In order to use their web version, you need to have an account. If you’re as disinterested in calling restaurants to place an order as I am, you probably even use their option to store your payment information. By having that information in their system, their web interface allows me to find the product that I want and have it delivered to my door.

This illustrates how the mobile web can be a competitive advantage as part of your overall web strategy. By having such a well thought-out and usable site on the desktop, Papa Johns is able to deliver a better mobile web experience to users. Check out the screenshot below:

That’s a good point. 90% of the time when you order pizza, it’s somewhere with a regular internet connection. Maybe it’s just neat to me since I’m such a mobile web fanatic.
