Dashwire 2.0 for Windows Mobile Gets Reviewed

Dashwire 2.0 for Windows Mobile allows you to sync all of your files and contacts using your PDA data connection and has cool remote control and picture sharing features as well. You install it on your Pocket PC or Smartphone and it will sync all of your data so that you can see it on your Dashwire dashboard.

It basically provides a way to Sync your phone to the web, along with a really solid dashboard and some cool social features. Check out a thorough review of these features and how they work after the jump!

Syncing

I singed up for a free account and downloaded the software. It installed wuickly and began syncing my data immediately. It might be a good idea to connect to your laptop for the higher data transfer, especially if you have a lot of pictures. I use Windows Mobile 6.1 and a TouchFlo interface, but everything worked together perfectly. The Dashwire application found all of my contacts and conversations and even assigned the pictures correctly.

Dashboard

You can log into your dashboard via the web to see all of your data. From there you can edit contacts, see your threaded SMS conversations and even use Callwave for visual voicemail. I thought that was really cool since I already use callwave and all I had to do was log in. Another really interesting feature is the ability to send text messages from your cell phone using the web dashboard! That’s pretty neat feature so you can continue chats with friends on the go while you’re online without having to pick up your phone and text.

Social Features

The makers of Dashwire were also thoughtful enough to add some cool social features to their product. First comes picture sharing. From the web dashboard you can send pictures to Flickr, Facebook and Bebo with a click of the button. It’s a really cool feature, though it would be even cooler if you could do it from your phone too!

The second social feature is a status setting. I use twitter pretty much constantly, so I was hoping they didn’t go and create their own service. Luckily you can set Dashwire 2.0 to update your status on Twitter, Facebook or both. That covers the two biggest status services and is a good start to integrating social features in Dashwire. Maybe in future releases you’ll be able to see your friends’ status messages too, though I don;t want to get too greedy.

My overall impression is that it’s a really handy tool. You can just keep a copy of the installer on a storage card and you’ll be able to restore your contacts even if your data gets wiped out while you’re on the road. Check it out at Dashwire.com

Appreciate the coverage! Its funny that you mentioned the possiblity of uploading pictures directly from your phone to sites like facebook and flickr because we were just talking about it in the office. That functionality is definitely coming soon (as in two weeks or so). Keep posted.
