Dating DNA has just announced their iPhone interface for browsing potential dates on the mobile web. They’re an up-and-comer in the online dating space and markets their service as a Social Networking dating site. It’s completely free in a market space where subscriptions are par for the course and much more usable than the other major free site, Plenty of Fish.

You start by filling out a relatively involved questionnaire on their web site where you fill in information about yourself and preferences in your potential dates. Then Dating DNA asks you to weight the different variables such as living situation, physical attraction and financial stability according to your priorities. You can then set the threshold for matches so that only compatible singles will ever see your information. This is an interesting twist on the standard online dating approach and could make it easier to find a good match without the fear of over-exposure.

Now their system matches you up with compatible singles and allows you to browse their profiles. This is the primary purpose of their mobile interface, though you can still browse profiles online. The iPhone interface basically shows you one profile at a time from your queue based on your preferences and threshold for compatibility set earlier. If you add someone to your DNA string, the system determines how well you match them and you can contact each other. You can even have Dating DNA text you with new matches, so that you know when to log in and check through new profiles. They also have a Facebook application that allows others to see whether you’re compatible.

Overall the design, approach and usability of their site is excellent, which is likely a must for the iSet. Their mobile interface was well conceived, though it doesn’t seem like it would take too much effort to adapt their work for other mobile browsers.
