With Earth Day coming up next Tuesday, April 22nd, many people and organizations are making plans to pitch in and make a difference in preserving our Mother Earth. Today Google announced the release of their Earth Day ‘08 map mashup that allows you to plant a green leaf on the map to tell the world how you plan to help save the environment on Earth Day.
You can look at the dozens of pledges and planned events on the US or Global map and find new ways to reduce consumption and preserve our natural habitat. You can also submit your Earth Day message and even attach a Youtube video about your plans.
Google is also getting the word out on ways that you can use Google to help with Earth Day. They’re pledging part of their revenue from Google Checkout to Environmental Nonprofits and recommending Google Transit as a way to conserve fuel and prevent emissions.
So far there are already a couple hundred leaves on the map, but I think we’ll see many more in the coming days! Screenshot after the jump.
So what will I be doing next Tuesday? Planting trees with my crew from AOL! It’s fun to volunteer and even more fun when your company supports it!
