Scott from Hermitworks has modified Quake 3: Arena to run on the iPod Touch. The Quake codebase was released under GPL in 2005 and is now known as ioquake. He’s managed to use the accelerometer built into the iPod Touch and to allow for online multiplayer gaming. They haven’t released a fully playable version quite yet, but hopefully soon.
Hermitworks also created Space Trader, a desktop game that is also based on the Quake 3 source code. Space Trader is available for Windows Mac and Linux platforms for 19.99 and they have made the code available on their blog.
Hopefully they can put together a Quake release for the iPhone and iPod Touch soon, and until then you can check out their video after the jump.
