Digsby is a full featured IM client that is currently in beta for Windows that combines support for all the major IM protocols with Facebook and Twitter status updates and email notifications. While it may not replace your primary email client, it can help you to track updates for your entire social schema. Digsby displays Twitter and Facebook feed notifications in a side pane or set them to pup up in the corner of your screen. You can also send IM replies directly from the popup notifications to save time.

One drawback is that it does put icons for twitter, facebook, email and digsby in the system tray and I can’t seem to find a way to disable them. As of yet, they haven’t released a client for Mac or Linux, but they are in the works. I’m also not sure if they plan to account for plugins like otr, which is not currently supported.
My favorite thing about Digsby is that it works as a centralized dashboard for all of the status and message updates that I monitor throughout the day. Now I can instantly see all my recent updates with a few clicks rather than having to flip back and forth between services or clients. They did a good job of designing the interface to present so much data without being overwhelming.

Hi, I’m one of the Digsby devs, I just saw your post on Google alerts, just wanted to let you know you can remove the icons from the status bar next to email and social accounts in the Accounts tab of the preferences
Thanks for the positive review, enjoy!
Hi Aaron,
I tried that and it removed the social network status from the Digsby Window as well as the System Tray. I like having the different sections in the client, but I’m wary of having too much running in my system tray.
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello!
