This weekend marks both the beginning of the National Cherry Blossom Festival as well as the weekend that’s predicted to be the peak bloom in DC. In addition, the Smithsonian Kite Festival is this weekend on the Mall. I’ll be taking my nephews down to go fly a kite and get a bento box in honor of cultural heritage of one of DC’s most treasured gifts.
With both of these events and the DC marathon this weekend, I think I’ll hop the Metro. You might do well to do the same. Better yet here’s a webcam of the National Mall and you can learn about the Yoshino and other varieties of cherry tree here.
