Navizon Enables Fire Eagle Location Updates

Navizon

After hearing a rumor that Navizon has created an uplink for the Yahoo Fire Eagle platform, I just had to check it out. I’ve poked around and confirmed that Mexens, the company behind Navizon, has in fact created a method for you to pass your location to Fire Eagle.

Navizon is the cell phone application that I use to update the Stalking Dave Map and my Google Gadget. You can use Navizon on your Windows Mobile Pocket PC, iPhone, Symbian or Java phone to track your location based on cell triangulation, Wifi, or GPS. All you have to do is log into the screen and then turn on Fire Eagle updates in your preferences.

Fire Eagle is Yahoo’s recently announced API for developing location based applications. It’s currently in (very) private beta, so I haven’t been able to play with it yet. There’s already a plugin for the Movable Type blog engine to make the blogger’s profile location aware.

Hopefully I can get in on the Beta soon and get you some cool new ways to track theregoesdave online!

Unfortunately, Navizon is horribly inaccurate for me. It’s nowhere near as accurate as Google Maps’ Locate Me function.

You can link it to GPS if you want to be really accurate, but I’m much happier with the ease of use and don’t see much need for an exacting location. But that’s just for my purposes and Danger Day works well for setting your location.
