Auto-follow on Twitter

Twitter

Apparently there’s a generally undocumented feature on Twitter that allows you to automatically follow any Twitter user that starts to follow you. I first learned about this capability from Douglas Karr’s Marketing Technology Blog. Apparently if you ask Twitter customer support very nicely, they might be able to enable this feature on your account.

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of different standpoints on this particular issue on Twitter. Some people seem to feel obligated to return the follow for everyone that adds them. Others are a bit less open and seem a bit less accustomed to the anonymous attention. I suppose it can be a little puzzling to have someone following your feed if you aren’t sure who they actually are, but isn’t that part of the fun of syndicating your status on the internet?

Thanks! One of the things I like about Twitter is it can open up new connections for you. It’s pretty exciting, and so far everyone has been fairly harmless. :)

I thought there was a way to do this using an incoming mail filter.
