Google Gears just announced that their offline web application tools will be available on the Windows Mobile platform. Google Gears will extend PIE to include a local cache for html and javascript as well as a local database. This allows you to access data from web tools even when you don’t have a signal. Now this isn’t very helpful for email and IM, but will open the door for better integration with more complex web applications via the mobile web.
This is helpful for more complex applications like office productivity tools and Finance. To exemplify the use of this powerful API are productivity tools developer Zoho and personal finance tool Buxfer.
