With the looming hostile takeover by Microsoft and after losing Opera Mini traffic to Google, Jerry Yang is trying a new technique for getting new Yahoo Search queries: Begging. At about 8 PM EST today, Yahoo sent out a mass email to all users calling their Search Product “revolutionary.”
They also quoted the internet mavens at the Chicago Tribune, you can see the news clipping below. That’s right, I said news clipping. I’m all for some good competition in search, but this is worse than the Ask Algorithm billboards.
As a fair and even handed reviewer, I did pop a few queries into the old Y! Search box. The results loaded instantly. The links that it returned were relevant and it was faster and easier than Ask. It’s still more believable when we don’t hear it from Y(ou), mmkay?
