A few weeks ago we announced our new mobile application development platform that will allow developers to write an application once and have it run on over 150 different mobile phone handsets. Jai Jaisimha, vice president of mobile product and technology development at AOL, explains the coming platform which will be open, so that developers can improve it as they like.
“So what this platform does is eliminate the need to learn all those different platforms because you can use a device agnostic markup language,” said Jaisimha. Developers will be able to access AOL Services such as the AIM, Mapquest, or Cityguide APIs or other third party services.
The Open Mobile platform is expected to be available this summer. I’m hoping that the markup language is easy enough for me to use, and looking forward to seeing what kind of cool mobile mashups this platform inspires!
