It’s finally confirmed! Thats right, android does indeed have support for touch screens. In fact, according to this article, not only is touch screen support working, but the hardware device drivers seem to be humming along. The article demos an E2831 smartphone that appears to have all working components, and even on a slower omap ti730 (200Mhz).
I don’t know about you, but I’m stoked!

I think that http://www.synaptics.com/ might have been the first to offer Android Touchscreen Drivers, but this is definitely the first concrete evidence I’ve seen!
