		<description>Palrigo is pretty nice. They even have a desktop version. Another kewl thing is that it puts an icon in the top bar of non-fullscreen application and blicks upon recieving a new message.</description>

I thought Fring was slated for for VOIP. Maybe that's jsut what some friends were using it for. I think it's worth taking a look at.

Have you tried Fring?  I just downloaded it after reading a post somewhere else, and it works great on my WM6 phone with Wifi.  Amazingly, my wife was YM-ing me when I installed it, and her messages started showing up as soon as I configured my Yahoo account.  Check it out:
