Finding a good IM client for the Windows Mobile is not easy. Finding a free client that supports multiple protocols is nearly impossible. When I heard about Slick IM from the small software developer Lonely Cat games, I was a bit skeptical.
I’m not aware of any free IM applications that are native to Windows Mobile. Slick is no exception as it is Java based, however it still manages to notify you of new messages in the menu bar. The only thing lacking in it being Java based is the ability to change the Notification alerts via the Windows Mobile settings menu.
Upsides: It works! Slick also has built in support for AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Yahoo, Jabber and MSN Live.
Downsides: It’s ugly. The navigation is a bit strange to figure out, but it’s still manageable. And did I happen to mention that the Alpha is FREE?

Have you tried Fring? I just downloaded it after reading a post somewhere else, and it works great on my WM6 phone with Wifi. Amazingly, my wife was YM-ing me when I installed it, and her messages started showing up as soon as I configured my Yahoo account. Check it out:

I thought Fring was slated for for VOIP. Maybe that’s jsut what some friends were using it for. I think it’s worth taking a look at.

Palrigo is pretty nice. They even have a desktop version. Another kewl thing is that it puts an icon in the top bar of non-fullscreen application and blicks upon recieving a new message.
