Commuters in cities across the country spend a major portion of their lives sitting in their cars. According to the Post, our commutes in DC rank 2nd in the country with an average commute of 33 minutes one way. That’s over 20 hours per month.

At 12 bucks a month you can pay less than $1 an hour for the best radio available without even making an extra trip to the grocery store. Sirius not only has Howard Stern, but Eminem’s Hip Hop station, but also Blue Collar, Maxim, and Playboy stations. My personal favorites are Faction which plays a mix of rock, punk and hip hop, and Lithium which plays music from when I was growing up grunge.

There are receivers that can dock with either your car or home system, but I just have a receiver in the car. Sometimes it will be splotchy on a rainy day or when driving through a forest, but that may have improved with newer receivers. They also have a browser-based media player and Geekstoolbox.com developed a client for Windows Mobile.

I’ve had a chance to check out XM for comparison through their offering on AIM. I’m not sure if it’s just the offering there, but XM just seems more pop and less edge. Winner=Sirius
